Consumer Warning! Miele Dishwasher!

My least favorite household chore is washing dishes. When we started our remodel I looked for a dishwasher that would last the rest of my life, be quiet & a low water user. I thought I'd found the best. I paid top dollar for it. Decided I wanted this worse than my granite counter top & a new refridgerator. Those things could wait. So, do you see the dishes stacked up here? My cuticles are cracked & bleeding.
My lovely fancy dishwasher is NOT WORKING, AGAIN! The Miele people have not responded to my complaints other than an email to tell me the repair man would be contacting me within 24 hours. I feel like I should put Darren the repair guy on my Christmas list! He's a nice guy, but we've had to spend way too much time together.

See no dishes in there? It's certainly not using much water! & it doesn't make a sound! So I can't complain there, now can I!!!

I really think for the amount of money I spent on this machine that Miele should replace it. I should not have to wait another day for more parts to be sent. It's been broken for more time than not, I haven't even used it for a whole year. They are replacing the motor next. It apparently has not been right from the beginning. Don't you think for a machine that you pay > $1700.00 for you shouldn't have to get a rebuilt????!!!!!IT"S A LEMON!!!!!!

What a bummer! It is such a cool-looking dishwasher, too!

I wonder why Miele is not responding. Maybe you know a lawyer that would write them a scare letter? Sometimes that's all it takes. Or you could try writing to Consumer Reports.

My friend has a Bosch. That thing is so quiet you could have a seance in the kitchen when it's running.

Good luck.

We spent more money on repairs for our (new) icemaker last year than the thing cost new. Then, we installed a water softener and the thing purrs like a kitty. In hindsight, we should've put in the water softener first.

I hate the kind of dilemma you are having with the dishwasher. Good luck and good rant.

It says it all right there. No wonder you are so irritated with it. I am leaning towards Bosch or Fisher Paykal for my new appliances.

Oooh...time for a Consumer Advocate! Do you have one attached to your local TV station that you could sic on them?
You might mention that your blog gets read by HUNDREDS of people world wide and you are not able to give them very good publicity on either workmanship, product features OR Customer Service...
How frustrating to have to wash dishes by hand when you expected to be able to have the machine do it...

I have Fisher Paykel (ryhmes with michael) washer and dryer and love them! Two of my kids bought the same set I have. After raising 4 kids (and all the laundry that go with them) with went with the FP because it has no transmission and that was always what went out on previous ones.
I read some reviews on their dishwashers, the drawer version (which I was considering for my new house) buy there were allot of complaints about leakage. I'll wait until they perfect it.

I think we should all gang up and write to Miele and demand a new one or refund for this poor woman!! There's allot of power behind these blogs and we could give Miele a BIG black eye!!!

Miele has a website and email contact at the bottom. I wrote a nice note telling them all about the lemon and how they should deal with it. Also that this info was available world wide!! (Also that I was building a house and that Miele would not be on my list of things to buy!!

Come on ladies! Do the same! Deb won't have time to get all that stuff done if she has to do dishes! Not to mention how your hands hurt when they start cracking like that! Poor Sissy!!

Don't laugh, but I know in good housekeeping magazine they help consumers settle disputes...maybe you can contact good housekeeping and they will contact the company for you and then run your problem and solution that they always get in the magazine...just a thought!

Incognito, eh? Not any more!

I'm sick for you. Hope this will get Miele's attention. You need to mention your blog to them.

Definitely need to get an advocate through your local TV station or Good Housekeeping. I think the idea of all of us writing to Miele on their website is good also. My husband owns a refrigeration and appliance service company and says he is seeing more problems with the newer more expensive appliances and that his customers are pissed!

Miele is a great company. Don't worry, they will take care of it. Call the 800 number and get to appliance service. Remember, every company has to depend on the service people. If your service person thinks it's a lemon he will call his rep. If it's a user error they will explain that, too. Good luck. Once fixed or replaced you will grow old with that dishwasher. Mine is 10 years old and has never once blinked, and I still can't hear it. Everything comes out great! I wouldn't have anything else.

I am really sorry about the hassle here,Deb.
On the flip side....
My cheapo dishwasher died in June, and because I had just spent a chunk of change on the John Campbell School, I decided to wait to get it fixed or replaced. So I started washing dishes by hand. Remember, this was gardening season...and I was thrilled to discover that just by washing the dishes once a day my nails were actually white and clean.

The repair man was out this week, and I learned it would cost more to fix than replace. But there's something about those 15 minutes with my hands in hot water....I like it!

Well, don't replace it with GE. We have the same story on our double Profile oven. It never worked properly, had the place where we bought it come to make repairs, still didn't work--now the bottom oven never works and to make the top one work, you have to remove the entire control compartment and fiddle with the wires. GE refused to do anything about it as well. I'll never buy GE again.

We have a Miele and it is FABULOUS. When we lived in Sydney, we bought a Fisher & Paykel and that really was a lemon. I can't tell you how many warranty calls and technician visits we endured. The final straw was when, shortly after the warranty expired, it woke us in the middle of the night with incessant beeping. My husband dragged the dishwasher out onto the footpath and emblazoned it with signs warning others not to buy a F&P dishwasher!

How frustrating that is. Isn't it awful when machines that are supposed to be so great turn out to be lemons? I could talk about my car, but won't. Good luck.
