Spring Creativity

Though the mountains are still covered with snow, it's warmer, & the days are getting much longer than the nights. It's feeling more like spring.

I've been a busy Bee this week. I worked Monday. Tuesday, & Wed. I worked in my studio. I painted fabric, because I didn't have the right shade of green for a quilt I want to add some 3D leaves to.

I also started messing around with some of my Tyvek. I blobbed paint on the surface, the folded it together, then opened it up.

I laid fabric on top of the painted Tyevek to get a monoprint on the fabric.

I loved the design that I got this way.

I did several pieces, & added different colors one at a time.

I also did a little Shibori process, with free motion machine stitches, & fabric paint. The first one I folded so that it had 8 layers. Then I quilted it with a #12 wgt. cotton thread. Painted front & back.

Let it dry, then removed the stitches.

Only the top layers were well saturated with the colors. The paint didn't soak through like dye would.

The under layers were very subtle.

I tried a 2nd time with only 4 layers.

The 2 outer layers were good, but the inner layers were again faint. I will probably only do this with dye in the future, but it was fun trying it with paints.

These 2 pieces have been hanging around nagging me to do something to them. So yesterday, I took my scissors to them.

I cut the center out of the one on the left. I'll save it for something else. It just was right in this frame. I chopped the bottom off of the other piece on the right.

This one, is for the "About Time Show" that will be at Terra Bella in July. I did a photo transfer of my little GD Carys when she was about 10 days old. She was yawning.

I burned the edges of the photo, & the painted silk under it. I layered it on another of my hand painted fabrics.

I wrote this little poem on it, & layered some Angelina Fibers & my Glad Fabrics, & placed tulle over the top. I did more embellishing today, & will photograph the finished piece & post it later.

As for the other, this is the plan for now.

I went to Quilt Guild this morning, then after that meeting, I went to our local SAQA meeting. We had a very interesting slide show presented by Linda Beach. Afterwards we did a little sharing. Maria Shell showed us her latest quilt made for a fundraiser for her son's school. It incorporated the children's art.

Judy Wedemeyer showed one of her "About Time " pieces, 'The Sands of Time".

Julia March Crocetto, from Talkeetna, March Wind Studio, talked about a recent trip to a Silk Painting seminar in New Mexico,

& showed us some of her lovey hand painted silk.

I love it when you get to learn so much about a process and then learn some more! The results are beautiful!

Such a creative life you lead!

I was thinking about you this morning, how at home you are with surface design, using all kinds of techniques and materials in a kind of exuberant flow.
I need to be more like you!
