To Dye or not to Dye?

That's my question! Speaking of dying, I felt like I was until yesterday! I caught the bug my DH suffered with all last week, & it knocked me flat since Thursday, but yesterday I felt better & today I'm sure I'm going to live.
I went to the store today, & while there decided to get my hair cut. I had been trying to let it grow long, but it was just driving me crazy. (Some would say that's a short drive.)
Anyway...this is now my natural color, & I'm kind of thinking I could live with it. I would truly like your unbiased opinions. Should this 55 year-old Granny stay gray? Or should I throw on some ash blond & make it look like high-lights? Is the gray a bad color with my yellow toned skin? That light is on the ceiling BTW, not my head!
Thanks for all the nice comments on the last quilt. I feel especially complimented by those long armers like Deb G, & Vicki W!

I can't really be unbiased. I suspect that I will dye my hair until I die!

I'd say you should rock the color until you are bored with it. Why not? Maybe play it up with some cool silver washes?

I think you're fabulous just the way you are!

To dye or not to dye? At first I thought you were talking about fabric... and I was going to say DYE! ABSOLUTELY!

But now I see that is not what you were talking about! And sorry, but I don't know much about hair.

You do have a pretty smile though! :-)

I think you look great!

...and besides, less time spent fiddling with our hair means more time spent fiddling with textiles! ;)

Save the hair dye money to buy fabric or fabric dye. It looks great the way it is.

Go 'au naturelle'. So much less fuss and muss and money! I'm 48 and not a sign of grey yet, and for some reason I'm anxious for it to convert for the simple reason that I was once a blond and with each baby (6) my hair started getting darker and duller. I hate my dark ashy hair and add highlights on occasion to lighten it up and compliment my skin tone and eyes. When I go grey, the lihgtness will be much more flattering on me...I just know it. Also, I'd hate to have to deal with touching up roots forever and a day till i'm in my grave!!!! Besides, people will start openind doors for you and stopping traffic to let you cross the street....advantages, advantages!

From a former cosmetologist and (very honest good friend) if you want to look 10 to 15 years older, keep the gray! Now, go out and buy some dye.

highlights. . . .

Try it as is for a while and see how you feel about it. Nice thing about hair is that it is never a forever decision!

uhhh Revlon # 747 8-))) Actualy, I'n not sure if that's the name of what I'm using, but it's Ash Brown, or light brown, and washes in and lasts for about 4 weeks. Sure gives ME a lift, and adds a bit of shine to my hair, which is getting mousey. You don't have to go the whole 9 yards with retouching roots, etc., if you just try a wash in. Always buy lighter than what you think you want.

Your coloring is very pretty and bright - hey go for it - you might like it! 8-)))

Well, I went through that same angst. Throughout my fifties, I was variably au naturale and very highlighted. Then I tried something called 'gloss' which my hair dresser said was the 'something' in hair color but without the color. Anyway, that added a brightness and shine that my early gray hair didn't have. But now. I am so totally ok with my gray. For now. For late? Who knows? But you are lovely no matter the color decisions you make.

Funny I was thinking about posting on this question. Glad I didn't because of all the comments. People have strong opinions. I think you look good with grey hair. It seems fine with the skin tone in the picture. I have yellow toned skin and would look washed out with grey hair, so I keep going. But I am sick of the money and the time and the way the color fades anyway. There's a web site called something like Going Grey, Looking Great. Google it and check it out.

I'm with Vicki W. I have been coloring my hair for years and everyone tells me they can't believe I will be 60 this year. IMHO gray hair makes one look tired and worn out. I say DYE IT you'll be glad you did...Kathy

Hello Deb. I too have been struggling with this question for the last several years too. I think you and your Lovely Silver hair looks fantastic. If you are happy with it that is all that matters. Hugs Judy PS How do you like your Kindle?????

We have the same color hair now! And almost the same look in a cut! We could be sisters!!
(I'm going for the "M" look from 007.....Judy Dench?) I was accused of being an old lady, trying to look like a young chick. HA.....like that could happen. Anyway, I said I was an old lady who is sick of dealing with her hair!!
I like it and don't much worry about what other people think. I do however, wear hoop earrings......it cuts down on the number of people who call me "Sir"!!
