Calendar Girls Tree Project

My Calendar Girls group is doing tree quilts as a group project this year. 12 of us each drew for a month. I got February. While in Michigan this February I took this photo of a lone tree by the beach at Lake Michigan. It's just a short way down the road from Allie's family cottage, & my brother's house.
I photo transferred it on to fabric, & did a little thread painting on it.
I had also thread painted this tree below about a year ago, & decided to use it too.
For a little softer look, I added some icy snowflakes made from Angelina Fibers.
It's been a while since I've had the time to flex my creative muscles, & I'm not sure I'm completely happy with the results, but it felt REALLY GOOD to be creating again.
Next week my Longarm will be delivered on Wednesday, & Megan flies in Thursday morning to set her up. I think I'll call her Lily, after my birth flowers, Lily of the Valley.

Lily is a good name. Mine is Godzilla (and for good reason). The tree is beautiful!

I love the block!! It looks like February.
I also love the name, Lily. That was my choice for Kamryn. I lobbied but lost. Parents today......why do they think THEY should get to name their babies?!

Ohmigosh, your February Calendar Girls piece is amazing. Love all the beautiful thread painting and the color scheme. And boy, does it ever capture what February was like around these parts too!

I think it's a lovely piece! It really conveys the cold and isolation.

I love your trees and the snowfakes are great. It diffently looks like February! Thank goodness our snow is gone and we're going to be 50 degrees this weekend, with sun!

Hi Deb, Thanks for popping by. Somehow I have been missing visiting here with you, but see you have been making lots of progress anyway. ALL that snow astounds me. Your tree is beautiful as was the original. I do know about the silencing snow brings that muted beauty standing all alone in the whiteness. Wow.

Loved the previous 2 post as well.

Your block looks exactly like February in Michigan! Reminds me of Grandma's house "on the lake" near Jackson.

This came out superbly! It is a side of Lake Michigan I don't know well, either... ;-) Only went there in winter a few times, and almost got frostbite!

The snowflakes are a pleasant reminder of the Irish dance dress...they go so well with the trees. The trees are to die for!

Starting with a simple (?) tree has developed into a work of art - you are so clever and imaginative. Thank you for your wonderful ideas (and photos) - they always inspire me!
