A question for quilters

I have a question for those of you who have attended shows & classes at such shows as AQS & IQA. What is the average cost you have had to pay for classes & lectures at such shows? What are you willing to pay? I've never attended any classes at such shows, but am on the Board for the Alaska Fiber Festival, & I feel that they (I missed a couple of meetings) may have over priced the classes & especially the lectures for our next show in March. I would like to have some numbers before I give them my opinion.
We have some pretty interesting teachers, I want to take Kennith King's classes , but Jennie Rayment , & Marylin Moore look very interesting too.
Thanks.

I am looking at the Houston Quilt Festival catalog. The all day classes seem to be running in the $60 - $70 range (plus any materials fees). Half-day classes are generally $35 plus materials fees and most of these are hands-on. lecture classes sem to be a little less. When I have been to garment sewing classes they do seem to be more expensive. You are also having to pay the travel fees for the teachers coming in for out of state.

I was going to say the same as Vicki. I would hesitate paying $125/day class but if the market will bear that price, it is OK to charge it. Your guild has different expenses than IQF. Also, some teachers make money at IQF on additional supplies or goodies in the classroom.

125 is too much for the quilter's around Kentucky, but, maybe, like Debra says, it's what the market will bear in AK.

If no one is signing up, you need to have an adjustment. When we have a speaker, the guild is responsible for the price the classes help defray her price. But, if not enough people sign up, the guild has to pay the difference. So far we haven't had to make anything up.
