It's Back

Well here's Christy in her dress. It's still too loose on top, & too long, so ...
here's what it looks like now. Oh well, I knew I was likely to need to do a bit more work on it, & the deconstruction was easy.
I've already taken the top in, & raised the seam on the shoulders, now just need to get cracking on the skirt. I'm also going to add more stabilizer & more lining to make the skirt stiffer.
The seam ripper in the above picture shows where I'll be cutting it shorter.
That also means one of the back snowflakes will be removed, but I'll use it to make a tiara for her to go with the dress.
Tuesday I took a Sashi ko class from Carroll Jones. It was very nice of her, as she didn't charge us a cent for the class. I haven't taken a picture of my project yet. Maybe later, I've had other things on my mind.

On the way home from the Sashi-ko class, I stopped down by the creek at the bottom of our road & snapped these images.

I saw my doctor Wednesday & will be going back to work next Tuesday. My shoulder is making perfect progress, now my #$!@darned knees are hurting. Getting old aint for sissies!

What will she be wearing this dress for? Is it a solo dance? Or is everyone getting something special made?
You're doing an amazing job for someone who hasn't done garment construction in.......how many years?? I didn't know your sewing machine could sew clothes!!

That's an amazing dress. For me, alterations are a special kind of hell right up there with home dec.

Vicki W couldn't have voiced my sentiments better!
You are a good friend to do this....

And I agree with Vicki and Allie. I've often said I'd go on the streets rather than make a living doing alterations! Bless you. And--would you explain what sashi ko is?

I envy you your garment construction skills! Autumn in Alaska is looking gorgeous. Really like that water dragon.

Yes she is an amazing friend. They
just don't come any finer.

I love the creek picture....I'm always driving by it too fast to appreciate it.

Melodie...yes its a solo dress as she's now reached the Prizewinner level. She'll be competing in Los Angeles in November on her 17th birthday.

I was awestruck to see the finshed dress and then bummed you had to take it apart. Rats. Amazing dress.

Wow! I've loved seeing the progress on the dress. It looks fantastic now, and will be even better when it's fitting properly.

The dress is gorgeous. You are a great sewer. The dress looks like the type worn by celtic dancers. Is that what she will be wearing it for?

The dress is turning out very cool! Sorry about the going back to work thing. It must be strange after having such a long leave. Heck, I have a hard time adjusting after after a 3 day weekend! haha We went farming this weekend, I posted lots of photos. Love you!
