Crazy Quilt Dragonflies-Part 3

In preparation for our vacation trip, I decided to do some more machine stitching on the Dragonfly quilt, then will start embellishing with hand stitches tomorrow as we travel. I'm looking forward to doing the slow stitching. I so rarely find the time. I also have an issue with the thumb joint, that with too much hand work, it gets pretty painful, so I normally limit that sort of thing. Here it is as it looks now, & below are details of the seams that I will stitch & bead.

These last 2 photos are a wire ribbon flower I made, after watching a tutorial on a ribbon flower.

The 1st is the under-side.

I used some inks on it, to color it up a bit.  The tutorial used a smaller ribbon, without the wire, & did 25 petals. I pared this down to 17 petals, as it was tight enough with 17.

It will likely be mid October before I can post again, as I've never figured out how to post from my phone. Have a lovely autumn!

ALCQ Quilt Show 2016 Part 1

I would love to post every picture I snapped at this years show for Anchorage Log Cabin Quilters, but I need to get to bed so I can get up for work in the early morning. I'm just going to share 2 things here.

This first photo is Gail Ramsey. Gail was our featured quilter this year. She is one of my favorites in our guild. She has a great eye for color & design, & a wonderful sense of humor & whimsy in her quilts. I Love everything she does. These are not every quilt she had hanging but about half-2/3? My very favorites are the old cars!

The second thing I wanted to share tonight is that Carol's Quilt won a viewers Choice ribbon.

I promise this is the last time I'll make you look at it! Carl was tickled pink.

Part 2 Dragonflies Crazy Quilt Process

I attended a conference this weekend, & having ADD, it helps me to stay focused by keeping my hands working on simple tasks, so I brought the Dragonflies, & did some simple trim work, while listening to lectures all day.

The photo below is a single flat plaid ribbon, that I folded into points, & stitched down.

I inked in some of my quilting with just fiber pens.

Today I added another piece to the upper right corner. It just needed it.

I also colored 3 pieces of lacey things from my stash to be later included.

I auditioned them here.

I've gathered & packed floss & beads, & will pack it all along when we travel in a few weeks.  This is it for now, on this piece. Next week is our quilt show, so if yo happen to be in the area, come join us at the Phillips-Conoco Atrium, downtown on 7th & G Saturday & Sunday, Sept. 17 & 18.

Crazy Quilt -New Beginning

This was a maching embroidery piece that was made by my friend Carol Wight Jones, some time before she passed away. I've decided to turn it into a small quilt for the 2017 quilt auction, at the Log Cabin Quilt Guild.

I thought I would start sharing the process here. I've used some Pigma pens to add some background.

& then freemotion quilted on Hobbs wool batting & a layer of backing fabric behind it, leaving room around the edges for a crazy border.

I dug through some of my silky fabrics, & found some I thought would compliment the piece.

This is how it looked after stitching it down.

Next I am machine quilting. I will post the rest as I get it done. I hope to have the quilting done soon, so I can take this with me as my travel project for our next vacation & get all of the hand embellishing done on it!

Doodling on my Painted Fabric

Today I doodled fantasy flowers on to one of the pieces I painted last week. I'm thinking it'll be a fun table runner & a good piece to demonstrate Free Motion Quilting.

Indian Summer in Alaska

I feel very blessed to be home today & being able to spend a little time just posting this. We have been having beautiful sunny & warm days this past week, after a string of rainy days. It's getting cooler at night, & the days are getting noticeably shorter, with the sun moving to the south. I decided I had to take advantage of the sun while it's still here, so last Sunday I hauled some fabric & paints out into the back yard & played with paints. Mostly Dynaflow, & some rock salt, & a few plants for sun-printing.

I also decided to work on a Rayon shirt that I bought from Dharma Trading Co. It was white, prepared for dying, & I've used it a couple of times as a clean-up rag when doing other projects. I added more colors to it, then started coloring with all of my fabric & gel pens, & Inktense Pencils. For now I think I may be done, but then again, I may not be...
