Carol Wight Jones

Today was a gift for me. I was given the day off as an "over-staff". I was thrilled. The timing was perfect.  I was on the home stretch of this quilt that I've been working on for the past year & 1/2. The quilt was a project that my friend Carol was working on in the last months of her life. She showed me the blocks & partial border she had finished & told me she feared she wouldn't have enough time to get it finished. I told her to do what she could, & I promised we would get it done for her. She did finish one border completely, & drew the designs on the rest. She cut & pinned most of the fabric bits, ready to be appliqued. When she passed away, her husband Carl gave me the pieces, & 2 other of my Calendar Girls, Mary Lee & Jan Wills each took a border to complete. I finished the last border, & then pieced the top. The patterns were from Pat Campbell's Jacobean Applique. I had thought I would send pictures of this quilt to Pat too, but was sad to find out that she had passed away too. I would imagine that she is with Carol in the big quilt guild in Heaven.

So here it is, the completed quilt, the last stitches stitched into it on Carol's birthday.

Happy birthday my friend. I still miss you.
