I spent most of my day working on making bread.
While it was baking in the oven & went into the living room with my DH, to relax before he had to go to work.
The smoke alarm went off, & this is what I found.
I realized afterward that I had left the foil in the broiler below the oven that I had broiled bacon wrapped dates on a couple of weeks ago. It had been too hot to remove at the time, & I had just forgotten it was there. So it was a grease fire. I consider myself lucky that it wasn’t worse, & will be more careful to check the broiler before I turn on the oven from now on! That’s one way to get me to scrub an oven!!!

Oh my dear! My grandmother used to cover a cake in a 9x13 pan with a plastic grocery bag and keep it in the oven so it'd be off the counter. One day, she was preheating for a lasagna and forgot she had a cake in there. It was messy but you definitely "take the cake" with this one!
Good luck and wish I could help! The best I can do is say that baking soda and water is my advice...
Fires are pretty scarey-Glad all that you lost was some loaves of bread :'(
Darn! Cleaning the oven is a pain and that bread would have tasted so good!
Oh dear. Glad it wasn't worse, but what an ordeal. I have had similar results with cooking a high-heat roast in a dirty oven. Smoke everywhere.
oh my gosh...glad it wasn't any worse than it was..too bad about the bread though...
Yep, that's a BAD day for sure!
