A Rowenta Disaster!

It all started with my iron stand on my ironing board. My brand new Rowenta has an oval base on it, so in order for it to set securly on the square base I had to set it at an angle. The old Rowenta had a square base, so this was never an issue.
So to comfortably set the iron on it's base after using it, I sat it sideways, rather than twisting my arm at an odd angle, while handeling a very hot iron.
It was a BAD, STUPID thing to do!

I walked away for a minute to cut the piece of fabric I had just pressed, & the weight of the hose tipped the back end of the iron off the metal stand.

It melted a hole right through the plastic housing.

Now I think it can still be used, & I may be able to cover the hole with a fiberglass tape of some other sort of patch, as the metal parts inside are where the steam generator lives, but this made me sick & sad. It's only the 2nd time I've used it, & I think this is really a bad design that this could even happen. There should be a heat proof plate on the entire top. So if you have one of these irons, BEWARE!
I'll be letting Rowenta know about this, & if they can replace the housing, I'll have them do it.

Oh Deb... glad you weren't hurt. Bummer about the stand, it does look like they could have designed it better to insure that that kind of thing doesn't happen.

Ap-cray!
Very glad you weren't burned.
Hopefully Rowenta will help you out...

Allie! Ain't THAT the truth! I think Mercury must be in retrograde or some such nonsense!

I certainly am having a time with the appliances! The dishwasher guy is coming next Friday. I think I should bake him some cookies. Good thing I don't need to iron them!

Ohmigosh! Who would have ever thought THAT could happen?? Sure hope Rowenta does something for you. At the prices they charge, they should, huh?

Yeah! The older version you can use the entire top! I hope mine doesn't croak any time soon!
Those things aren't cheap and that really stinks!! Why do these people think they have to constantly "improve" their products!?!

Ugh, in light of your recent issues with expensive appliances (first the meile & now the rowenta) might I suggest going cheap next time....

I'm so glad that you weren't hurt, and that no fabric was hurt during the experience. I do hope Rowenta can make it right.

I've ruined more than one iron by letting it crash to the floor (I'm more careful with cords these days.)After my last accident, I hauled out my cheap Black & Decker and it worked so well I wondered why I paid more money to get a Rowenta. Sorry about yours.

At lease your DH is ok. Jen

Bummer. Thanks for the tip Mom. As I have the same model, I'll have to be carefull not to do that with mine! I got an email from Husqvarna Viking more than 8 months ago that said to stop using my Designer I and get it serviced immediatly or it could catch on fire! As we don't have a Husquarna Viking dealer on the atoll and knowing my previous track record with fire it looks like I won't be using it until I can carry it back someplace where I can get it serviced.

I know plenty of people like Rowenta irons but I think they are worthless. I hava had 2 and neither one of them was worth anything near the price. Give me a good old Black and Decker any day.

Hot irons are serious trouble. Like the rest, I am glad you are OK. (and Warren too)

Oh no, Deb! I know how excited you were about this new iron! What a bummer. As you and Allison say, it's not a good appliance time.

Oh what disaster. I definitely think you should talk to the company and tell them their design is not great and why.
